Tom Watson has claimed his golf game is like “a love affair” with the garden.

Speaking in a new book on his golfing life, The Golf Guru, Watson revealed how he “couldn’t believe” he could still “play golf” after a stroke in 2006 left him “on the ground”.

He said: “I remember being on the back of the bus and being thinking: ‘What am I going to do next?

“I mean, it’s the most magical thing you could imagine.””

But despite enjoying his “truly wonderful” golfing career, Watson is quick to point out that “in the end, we all have to go through something and we all get through it.””
